Digital Twins are digital representations of physical objects, systems, or processes and sit at the intersection of IoT and Analytics. They are data structures that define both the static and dynamic properties of the physical entities they mimic as well as the relationships between those entities. Dynamic properties map to the appropriate properties of devices and sensors that send telemetry on behalf of the physical twin. Digital Twins allow you to create, test, and simulate the physical counterparts digitally where it’s less costly when you make a mistake. At runtime, edge and cloud IoT platforms feed data to the digital twins from their physical counterparts facilitating analytics of each twin’s latest state, historical state (digital thread), and aggregated state across all twins of the same type. There is no Industry 4.0 or Metaverse without digital twins.
